The Boston Public Library (of which I am a member) has a subscription to the Oxford English Dictionary! I know!!! It's ok, I'll wait for you to catch your breath. I know!!

In case you are, for some reason, not overwhelmingly jealous already, let me break this down for you:

20 printed volumes
22,000 printed pages
60,000,000 words in the 2nd edition
1,000-2,000 new words added each quarter
the definitive record of the English language
tracing word usage through 2.5 million quotations
covering the English-speaking world including North America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Caribbean

All of this, available to me, as a member of the nation's first large free municipal library.

Reason enough to live in Boston until I die.
