Finally, the post you've all Nana's been waiting for: Hamish's birthday party!
First birthday parties are clearly more for the parents than the baby. Hooray! We've managed to keep this child alive for a full year. We've kept ourselves alive for a full year. Cake for all!
We had a great time celebrating with about 30 or so friends. Hamish was most comfortable on my hip at first, but she wasn't unhappy, just taking it all in. As the party progressed she got down to play and eat and enjoy being passed around.
She was unsure of the cake. She decided it was far more fun to feed it to other people--her Daddy, her friends--than eat too much herself.

The first year was a bit of a wild ride, and we are so grateful for the overwhelming blessings and grace the Lord has shown us this year. He has been so good and gentle with us as we've adjusted to this new and still-changing life. We love her so and we pray that we are as good and gentle with her.
