It's been 10 months since we stepped foot on American soil. Really that's not long in the grand scheme of things, and it has certainly flown by for us, but man, we're excited! Honestly, there aren't many tangible things we miss that we can't get in Singapore, but there are definitely a few things that we're really looking forward to when we get home (from both of us, bet you can tell who is wishing for what):

  • Chipotle. I have written Chipotle corporate with a pitch for Singapore and I got a nice response, but so far, no Chipotles in Asia. The last time I had a burrito was the day we missed our flight in New York.
  • Drying all my t-shirts in a dryer so they shrink back to their original size and shape
  • driving a car.  This could get interesting.  Kyle says when he daydreams about driving, he actually catches himself imagining driving on the left side of the road.  Hopefully things will fall right back in their rightful order quickly...
  • grilling.  A few people have grills in Singapore, but we don't and we are definitely making some hamburgers at Kyle's parents asap.
  • Trader Joe's cheap yum beer-- though we won't really have time to enjoy that fully.
  • seasonal Spring temperatures - Shanghai was nice for about a day, but it was one extreme to the other. we should see a good balance between SC/TN/MA of warm and crisp, cool, but pleasant.  hopefully it is warm enough at least one day in Boston to go--
  • sailing!
  • Wendy's. yes they are in Singapore now, but it's not the same.
  • Mom's home cooking.  What are you making me Mom? (asked in both K and A's voices) [halfway accomplished!]

  • Homes that are the same temperature throughout. I really believe that having only one or two rooms of your home at very pleasant temperature during certain hours messes with you psychologically.  Vegging out on the couch to watch TV when it's 80 degrees just isn't the same. Cooking takes on a new character when it involves significant sweat. And even when a room is kept cool, it's by the wall-unit air conditioner, requiring good air movement to quickly cool you off. I can't even remember what it's like to be in a home with central air conditioning (or heat) that magically keeps the whole place feeling cozy.
