We've been a little blogged-out if you hadn't noticed. But there are still things to tell and pictures to share, so I guess we'll get back on the horse and plow ahead (metaphor!)
Northern Thailand! Yes, we spent a week in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai in March. And this trip may very well turn out to be pivotal in our traveling lives. Because of the motorbike. Before this trip, we definitely had a "Kyle and Alli don't do motorbikes" stance, primarily because both my brother and Kyle's uncle have had bad motorcycle accidents. But there's only so many times you can see four 10-year-old girls on the same bike all texting before you think, "You know, maybe we could do that. But with helmets."
So we did. In both Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai we rented motorbikes most days and roamed wherever we wanted with the GPS to guide us back home when the day was done.
The "white temple" outside of Chiang Rai was extremely odd and Dante-esque. Except Buddhist.
These platforms were in the middle of the river outside of Chiang Rai for chilling and picnicking.
The "silver temple" in Chiang Mai was much more to my liking. The entire structure is hammered silver. It's amazing and looks sharp.
Of course we did a little nature-observing on the way up to Doi Suthep, an important temple on a hill outside of Chiang Mai.
It's a very active temple.
We found some of the translations... confusing.
We also found random temples and rice paddies and teak workshops and lots of other interesting things to explore.
My only regret was that we didn't have someone with us to take a picture while we were riding. I had the shot all planned out in my head. The blurred green background would have been awesome!
Turns out we can do this. With helmets.

And I'm totally behind the helmet rule. :)
